Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing - ISTD
The ISTD's chief objective is "to educate the public in the art of dancing in all its forms". To achieve this, the ISTD works in four main ways:
- to promote knowledge of the dance
- to maintain and improve teaching standards
- to qualify, by examination, teachers of dancing in the ISTD's specialist techniques taught by our 10,000 members in schools of dancing throughout the world
- to provide, through its syllabi, techniques upon which to train dancers for the profession.
International Organization of Transition for Professional Dancers - IOTPD
The International Organization for the Transition of Professional Dancer (IOTPD) was formed in 1993 in Lausanne, Switzerland to:
- help professional dancers in the process of career transition;
- promote awareness of the contribution the dancer makes to society, the needs of the dancer during the transition process and the benefits of a successful transition to a future productive career.
- The Transition of Professional Dancer has members in 19 countries.
International Dance Committee of ITI/UNESCO - ITI/UNESCO
The International Theatre Institute (ITI), an international non-governmental organization (NGO) was founded in Prague in 1948 by UNESCO and the international theatre community. The ITI has national ITI centres in approximately 90 countries. The ITI maintains formal associate relations with UNESCO and is its principal international NGO partner in the field of the performing arts.
Objectives:
- To promote international exchange of knowledge and practice in the domain of the performing arts.
- To stimulate creation and increase cooperation among theatre people.
- To increase public awareness of the need to take artistic creation into consideration in the domain of Development.
- To deepen mutual understanding and contribute to the consolidation of peace and friendship between peoples.
- To join in the defence of the ideals and aims of UNESCO.

Laban/Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies - LIMS
The Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS) trains students to observe and study, in-depth, the teachings of Rudolf Laban and Irmgard Bartenieff. Three classes which are prerequisites for the Certificate Program, include an introduction to Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals and Anatomy and Kinesiology.
Society of Dance History Scholars - SDHS
The Society of Dance History Scholars (SDHS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting study, research, discussion, performance, and publication in dance history and related fields. Organized in 1978 as a professional network, the society was incorporated in 1983 and now counts among its members individuals and institutions in the United States and abroad committed to the (inter)discipline of dance studies. It was admitted to the American Council of Learned Societies as a constituent member in 1996.
SDHS defines dance history in the broadest possible terms. The field encompasses the tradition of Western theatrical dance from Renaissance and Baroque court entertainments to postmodern dance theater; the dance traditions of non-Western cultures; and a range of theatrical and participatory dance forms constitutive of popular culture – from country dancing and the waltz to the tango and MTV.
